Downhills Park Football Club won the first cup in their four year history when they defeated first division Elm Athletic in the final at Henry Barass Stadium. Steve Parry opened the scoring on the 12 minute mark, tapping in under pressure after Ian Kirkwood beat an unrushing keeper to head the ball into the strikers path. 20 minutes later, Downhills Park were 2-0 up. Daryll Murphy with the goal, Steve Parry the creator this time.
The Green Army didn't let up in the second half. Daryll Murphy grabbed his second with the goal of the game. The all-time record scorer for Downhills won the ball on the half way line, Ian Kirkwood stormed down the left, cut inside, laid it into the path of Murphy who smashed the ball home.
Ian Kirkwood was again on hand to create the fourth of the game for Downhills Park. And again, Daryll
Murphy finished it. A hatrick in the cup final is an incredible feat. It completed a hatrick of hatricks for
Murphy this year who bagged 17 goals in all competitions. It brings his total to 56 goals in 73 games
for the club.
The game finished 4-0. Michael Nolan - Downhills captain - looked the proudest man in the world as he
lifted the trophy.
A great end to an eventful season for Downhills.

On Tuesday, our last training session was had. I scored about half a dozen goals... but the real story was Downhills Park's first ever cross-bar challenge, filmed by our very own Daryll Van Murphy. He's shared it with us!
